The rational part of a teen’s brain is not fully developed and won’t be until age 25. Recent research has found that adult and teen brains work differently. Adults tend to think with their prefrontal cortex, the brains rational part.
Beginning the journey as a young adult for some countries starts at 16 years and some 18years when they get their national identification (ID). In all their life before that they are guarded and guided, told what to do and when to do it and how to do it. Armed with the freedom to be an adult and not answer to anyone all the time, excited at finally becoming legal to do most things, they are not quite prepared skill wise to handle the challenges that come along with adulthood.
